What Is A Sacred Space And How To Create One With Intention

A sacred space is a little spot to relax & let go. A place to renew. A place that allows you to feel more centered, grounded and happy, where you can go to disconnect from the outside world and connect with your inner self. It is anywhere you feel comfortable and safe, a physical place or simply a state of mind created by mindfully connecting with yourself daily.

In this post, I will be guiding you on how to create a physical sacred space. Whether you call it an altar, magic circle, temple, or any other name of your choice, so long as it helps you feel free to be yourself without judgment or worry.

Here’s your step-by-step guide to creating a sacred space:

Choose Your Location

Figure out where this space will be. Is it a whole room or does it need to be portable (a hotel room, shared workspace..). Your sacred space doesn’t have to be big or fancy – I have helped some of my clients create sacred spaces in closets, their desk drawer at work and even their glove compartment in their car. The most important thing is that it is a place you intentionally create to feel connected back to yourself.

Prepare Your Space

Clean your space, physically and energetically. Open a window, let out the stagnant energy. Dust, vacuum or scrub the space, get it clean & fresh. Light a Palo Santo Stick, ring a crystal bowl or spray a Negativity Neutralizer Spray that incorporates crystals such as Black Tourmaline and Smokey Quartz. Remember to repeat this step again whenever you feel your space needs it or whenever the energy feels dense and heavy.

Set Up With Intention

Now gather up any items that have a personal meaning to you. Those can include photos, candles, crystals, any items that feel like a physical representation of your intention for creating this sacred space. Some crystals in my opinion are a must-have to create an energetically aligned space; Clear Quartz, Black Tourmaline, Smokey Quartz or Selenite are great choices. You may choose to create a crystal grid here too. It’s all up to you and what feels right.

Once you have done setting up your sacred space it is time to use it, create a ritual or routine that you can do each time you enter the space, any easy vibrational thing you can do to help make your space more inviting while creating a sanctuary for yourself.

Introduce some Sacred Sounds, use a crystal singing bowl or tingsha bells or play some music that can really get you in the right headspace. Like this playlist I love listening to first thing in the morning. Light up a candle, sage yourself or use Palo Santo to cleanse yourself and your space, write down an intention for the day or do a quick tarot pull or a mini crystal meditation, anything that feels intentional and aligned.

Trust your intuition and get creative. Use this space daily or whenever life feels chaotic or your mind feels all over the place, and remember that by setting aside intentional moments of sacred stillness during our busy lives, we can facilitate life-altering changes.
